Beware of
Large Unprotected cliffs no fences in some places. Returning back from Filey Brigg is only possible at low to tide times. If you are attempting the walk along the beach always check the tide tables first before setting off.
Detailed description
Follow the easy path across the top of the cliffs. At the end of the Cleveland way, you can then turn right along the path to Filey, or walk towards the end of Filey Brigg. Either descend the steep steps on the right, or carry on along to the ridge until the end. Before attempting to walk along the shore, check the tide times, as it's not possible to walk back at high tide.
Visiting Filey Brigg. The local council discourage you from using both the path along the ridge, and the path on the right of the ridge, as they may be slightly rougher than many people are able to cope with. However, the more adventurous may carry on along the ridge to the birdwatchers hut, and beyond onto the Brigg. The narrow tidal rocky spit is an incredible place with sea all around, especially in rough weather, however care must be taken, as the sea can sweep over the rocks at high tide or in stormy weather. After visiting Filey Brigg walk back along the rocky beach to Filey, if the tide is still out.

Cayton Bay To Filey Route
The southern most part of the Cleveland way is far less wild than the northern sections. Despite the coast being full of caravan parks, the views on the seaward side are rewarding
Conditions
Clifftop paths, with a rocky beach
Walk Along The Wolds Way
Route: For the short walk follow the path out along the Brigg and return the same way. The longer route passes the National Trails sculpture and heads up the cliff path away from the Brigg. After 1 mile turn sharp left to follow the cross field path down to the Scarborough Road and then turn left to return to the Country Park.
Path details: The short walk (Graded A1 Surface Quality: Compact hard surface, Gradient: Near level, up to 1 in 20) follows a compacted limestone path suitable for wheelchair use. The longer route is short to medium grass and is moderately uneven. The path rises steadily at an average of 1:12 then falls gradually to the Scarborough Road. There is a tarmac footpath back to the Country Park.
Nearest facilities: There is a café, shop and toilets at the Country Park (Seasonal) and also in Filey town centre.
Points of interest: The rocky promontory of Filey Brigg, heavily capped with glacial clays is a haven for both geologists and ornithologists. The fossiliferous limestones and grits dip at a steep angle under the Brigg giving the north and south sides a very different appearance. Protruding eastwards into the North Sea the Brigg is an ideal place for watching passing seabirds and waders while the adjacent cliff top fields and ponds provide a differing habitat for other species.
